Keep the metal story going with hand made steel frames!

We really do love making silver photographs!  We also like the idea of keeping the metal story going with hand made steel frames.  Later this week we will be offering these frames to pair with our tintypes so that you too can keep the metal story going for your family!

Here is an example of some work we just completed.  The original photograph was a color print.  We added some sky to the background to complete the photograph and then exposed two 4x5 tintypes and one 8x10 tintype.  The tintypes were then mounted to steel frames, ready to hang.

How do we package and ship out orders?

It is important to us that we treat your digital tintypes as the precious family memories that they are.  These life events travel with us as we grow and change through life.  We want your digital tintypes to last generations and treat them like pieces of art.

This is why we mat each order that we ship out in acid free matting and include care instructions with each digital tintype.  This is an extra step, but it insures that your digital tintypes arrive on your door step safe and sound and ready for display in your family home, or ready to wrap as a gift for a friend.

'Can you remake my old tintype?'

We have been getting this question quite a bit lately.  The answer is yes!  We love to help families bring their old tintypes back to life, or create new tintype copies for multiple family members.  We offer custom sizes so that we can make new tintypes to fit into your old cases.

Upcycling film cassettes

We really love making something new out of something old.  Rediscovering a lost memory by restoring a photograph is our specialty, but so is creating unique photographic gifts.  This is where we discovered how fun it is to use film cassettes as the metal backing for our tintypes.  These pins were coated one at a time and were exposed in a 1960's Minolta 35mm camera.  They feature some of our favorite cameras and are a fun gift for any photographer or photo lover!

Restoring family history

We love photographic restoration!  It makes us really happy to be able to offer a family the ability to bring an old tattered photograph back to life.  Below is an example of a restored photograph that we have turned into a tintype.  The original photograph was taken in a dime store in a classic photo booth.  These images have a tendency to fade over time.  Luckily, this one wasn't as faded as some, but it did have a good deal of missing information on the left side of the photograph.  You can see the original on the bottom left below.  We created a restored image and then plated both a black and silver digital tintype at a 5x7 size.

We are happy to receive your damaged family photographs and restore them to tintypes.  Simply email us at digitaltintypes@gmail.com to get started!
